Swedish Storage Company Selstor Relies on QNAP Network Recording to Smooth its Security Management
Background
Swedish self-storage company Selstor® provides rental units to individuals and companies for a week or more. The storage units range from 1 to 30 square meters. Customers access their individually alarmed units with their own keys and codes, which are available seven days a week from 5:30 a.m. to midnight.
Challenge
Each of the six storage sites is easily accessible and secured with video surveillance cameras. As the importance of safe-keeping what customers paid to store in the storage space provided by storage service providers became more and more demanding, it became clear that Selstor would need to gradually upgrade and enhance the level of security of all sites while deploying better surveillance systems to new sites that are in planning stage. The company needed a reliable network recording solution that can work with the existing surveillance system as well as the automation system that were already in place.
Solution
Due to the unique characteristics of the type of service that Selstor provides to their customers, they needed a scalable and flexible monitoring solution that not only compliments the existing system but also improves it. Direktronik AB, QNAP® Security's business partner in Sweden proposed to Selstor a hybrid surveillance system with roughly a total of 12 cameras per site that includes VIVOTEK® IP cameras, analog cameras connected to video servers and QNAP VioStor NVR as storage backend.
After careful evaluation, Selstor decided to use VioStor NVR as the storage backend video storage solution and chosen a VS-8032U-RP for the central management site since compared to other solutions, VioStor NVR lineup stands out in ease to use, reliability, offers all the features that they needed at an affordable price point. Remote monitoring was another benefit that contributed to the selection as it allows the management level to keep watch over all sites while on-site personnel can make use of the VMobile app to keep an eye on everything on their smart phones when they make their routine checkups.
Selstor is very happy with the integration of Crestron® control and automation system with VioStor NVR lineup. Surveillance footage is displayed on a large screen in the reception area of each Selstor site, allowing customers to see the premises for themselves. The Crestron system pulls video stream from VioStor NVRs to the screen. Operators can also drag and drop cameras to view all of them or just a single scene, changing layout of monitoring interface as they please. VioStor NVR used along with Crestron's access control and alarm management, operator at the control center can open doors or verify alarms in a timely fashion.
Result
Selstor's management level was impressed with QNAP's powerful and open network storage. It plans to add more VioStor NVRs along with VIVOTEK fisheye cameras at new sites in planning and will expand beyond Sweden. To keep up with a growing business, the scalability and easy integration provided by QNAP proved to be just the right fit for Selstor.
